New technology, new processes, new requirements: in many sectors, employees are confronted with changed conditions in their professional environment shortly after their training. What has been learned quickly becomes obsolete, new knowledge changes the workplace almost daily. Continuous further training is therefore essential for many employees in order to keep up with developments in the industry. A large part of this training is usually provided in an informal setting: through ordinary activities at work, in leisure time or with the family, many employees acquire skills that help them to cope with these changes.
The TeBeVAT project aims to provide employees in the event technology sector, which is particularly affected by the above-mentioned changes, with processes that enable employees to identify, validate and certify the knowledge they have gained through their work and thus provide a companion for lifelong learning. This is intended to make it easier for skilled workers – for example, those without formal training or with aspirations of moving to another European country – to participate actively in the labour market and to ensure that their skills are comparable with those of other workers.
Building on the predecessor projects TeBeVAT 1 and 2 and the TeBeVAT process developed within this framework, partners from industry and research from Germany (VPLT – Verband für Medien- und Veranstaltungstechnik), Austria (sv wtu), the Netherlands (OSAT), Belgium (STEPP) and Italy (Consulenza Direzionale di Paolo Zaramella) have joined forces as consortium leaders under the leadership of BF/M-Bayreuth to complete these processes.
The aim of the project is to create processes that enable employees to identify, validate and certify their informally acquired knowledge and thus create a companion for lifelong learning. For this purpose, the sector of event technology was selected because it is characterised by rapid professional and competence requirements in an international environment and thus fulfils representative requirements of other sectors.
The validation of informally acquired competences makes it basically possible for skilled workers without formal education to prove their skills, which means that more personnel is available on the labour market and the shortage of skilled workers can be effectively combated. The final result of the project should be transferable to other sectors and thus contribute to making the European labour market more flexible.
The TeBeVAT process – for the validation of informal and non-formal competences – is at the heart of the project. At the end of the project period, it should provide a tool that can be transferred to other occupational groups. It will provide role profiles for mentors and mentees, which will make it easier for learners to identify their own skills.
The TeBeVAT project will run for 24 months and is funded with approx. 280,000 EUR within the framework of the ERASMUS+ funding programme of the European Commission on the topic of “Cooperation to promote innovation and exchange of best practices
According to the project objectives, the project TeBeVAT 3 is divided into four work areas: In a first step, a methodology for an assessment and appointment procedure will be developed to assess informal and non-formal learning outcomes. In order to ensure the transferability of the results beyond national borders, national validation and awarding bodies will be involved. In a second step – based on the requirements developed in the TeBeVAT 2 project – professional profiles for mentors and assessors will be created, which are closely related to ESCO (European Classification of Skills, Competences, Qualifications and Occupations) and thus ensure pan-European validity. In combination with training modules to be created for social and technical competences in the field of event technology, learners will be given the opportunity to become involved in the process in a self-determined way. To ensure the sustainable implementation of the project results, relevant stakeholders will be analysed and a plan for the joint establishment of the TeBeVAT process will be developed. Furthermore, the project results will be made available to the general public in an open source database.
The project results are expected to be presented to an international audience of experts at the trade fairs “Didacta 2021” and “Prolight + Sound 2021”.
